Tempera and gold on panel
Detail of a panel in the Museum of the Basilica of St. Francis, Assisi, Italy
The saint is tonsured and dressed in the habit of the Vallombrosan Order. He carries a book, perhaps referring to the revisions to the Rule of St. Benedict that he prepared for the order, and the hand cross by which many of his miracles were performed.
