The Virgin and Child with Saints Praxedes and Pudentiana

11th century
Fresco
Basilica of Santa Pudentiana, Rome

As in Throne of Wisdom statues common in this era, the child sits on Mary's lap, she sits on a throne, and both return the gaze of the viewer, whom the child blesses with his right hand. (The book seen in the Throne of Wisdom is, however, absent here.)

The flanking figures with the small white scarves are Saints Praxedes and Pudentiana, offering the child their crowns of martyrdom.
