The Virgin Mary Giving the Rosary to St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena

Church of Saint Agatha in Trastevere, Rome

Mary is in her traditional red dress with blue mantle. The child is nearly but not quite naked, a feature of 16th-century imagery. St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena wear their Dominican habits as they receive the rosary from Mary and the Christ Child respectively. The figures at the bottom are souls in Purgatory awaiting the prayers for them that the faithful will say on their rosaries.
