The Marriage of the Virgin

The Presentation Chapel, Burgos Cathedral, Spain

Already pregnant with the Christ Child, Mary is crowned and attended by two little angels. According to literature distributed at the cathedral the figures behind Mary are the two St. Johns.

The sculpture is of course influenced by marriage practice of the time. The officiant is dressed as a Christian bishop with a mitre and chasuble. I presume that the length of cloth relates to some custom of the time.
