The Sarcophagus of Adelphia
Detail, Jesus Changes Water into Wine

This is the miracle at Cana recounted in John 2:1-11. When the wine ran out at a wedding feast Jesus had the servants fill six large jars with water and take them to the chief steward, who found them filled with wine.

In this panel of the sarcophagus the six jars are represented by three small vessels on the floor. Jesus' forearm and the wand symbolizing his divine power have broken off. The other man is probably an Apostle, but he could be the chief steward.
