Detail from the predella of L'Alunno's Coronation of the Virgin, Pinacoteca Vaticana, Rome

The upper register of the predella has the twelve apostles reading from or presenting scrolls with Latin phrases from the Apostles' Creed. Philip's scroll is the sixth one, Inde venturus est iudicare vivos et mortuos, "from whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead." He reads it with the help of modern spectacles worn well down on his nose. The next apostle, James the Less, is also in spectacles and faces Philip across a now blank central frame.
