Following the an iconographic tradition, the artist puts the figure performing the circumcision in the High Priest's "holy crown" but not in any of the other attire associated with that office. Mary and Joseph are at right, the latter holding the rod that is his attribute. At left a man writes at a table reminiscent of the altars on which older Circumcision images placed the baby.
