Holy Mary of the Assumption: Our Lady
of the Assumption |
Unidentified Female Saint |
Unidentified female saint, most likely St. Anne: The white wimple completely covers the hair, ears and neck, framing the statue's bust in smooth white. The eyes look upwards slightly. The right hand is at the breast and the left hand holds a book. Basis for Identification: Our notes say the statue was identified by the custodian as Our Lady of Candelaria. But there is no Child Jesus, and the details of the statue suggest strongly that this is St. Anne: the book, the veil, the wimple, and the mantle covering the head. This St. Anne at Santa Ana del Valle resembles the present santo in all those details and also has a very similar face.
