Crucifix

Bare wood, hollow corpus of stained and painted wood, and embroidered fabric. Height about 7 feet (210 cm.).
Ex-convent of SS. Peter and Paul, Teposcolula, Oaxaca, Mexico

Typical of traditional crucifixes in Hispanic countries, this work emphasizes the blood and suffering of the Crucifixion. As in many of the crucifixes that we observed in Oaxaca, a skirt of contemporary embroidered fabric covers an original carved loincloth and has small red shield attached at the left hip.
