La Virgen de la Soledad
Wood, gesso, paint; carved hair, painted eyes; fabric
clothing. Approximately 5½ feet tall (168 cm.).
Cuilapan, Oaxaca, Mexico
The Virgin is shown wearing black and silver clothing and a crown with a cross on top. Her face is long and pale.
The work appears to be of recent manufacture. The hands are even less
detailed than is the norm for representations of Mary in Oaxaca.
