Ippolito Scarzella ("Scarsellino," 1550-1620), The Cleansing of the Temple

Oil on canvas
Musei Capitolini, Rome

The painting combines details from Matthew 21:12-13 (the overturned tables of the money changers) and John 2:14-16 (the overturned tables, the spilled coins, the whip, and the sheep and cattle). In both gospels Jesus also attacks the sellers of doves, but the doves do not seem to be in evidence here, unless they are in the basket in the bottom left corner.
