St. Agnes

Mid-15th century
Tempera on wood, gold ground
Metropolitan Museum of Art

St. Agnes is identified by her attribute, the lamb at her breast, and by the palm branch signifying martyrdom. More often than not the saint is pictured bareheaded, as here. The hair itself is almost always pictured as blond.
