The Immaculate Conception

1627
Oil on canvas
Metropolitan Museum of Art

Twelve stars form a halo over Mary's head and are echoed by a circle of twelve putti enclosing the sun glow. As in the traditional iconography, Mary presses her hands together in prayer, stands on a crescent moon, and is attended by angels. The only missing identifier is the dragon beneath her feet.
