Our Lady of Montserrat
According to the website of the abbey of Monserrat, "The image of Our Lady of Montserrat, popularly known as La Moreneta (the Dark One), due to the dark colour of Her skin, is a truly beautiful 12th century Romanesque polychrome carving. Pope Leo XIII proclaimed Our Lady of Montserrat Patron Saint of Catalonia in 1881."

The statue is an adaptation of the "Throne of Wisdom" type common in the 12th century. The child is "enthroned" on the lap of his mother, who in turn sits on a backless throne. Unlike the "Throne of Wisdom," however, the child wears a crown and both figures hold orbs. These features emphasize divine rulership rather than wisdom.
