Francisco de Zurbarán
St. Rufina

Circa 1625
Oil on canvas
Hispanic Society, New York City

The museum label identifies the subject of this painting as St. Rufina, and they must know. But this saint's attribute is a pottery vessel, which is not in evidence. She holds a book upon which she has set an object that is hard to interpret but certainly not a pottery object.
