St. Andrew Altarpiece: The Forty Drowned Men

This is the sixth predella panel in the St. Andrew Altarpiece at the Cloisters. Forty men were traveling to meet with St. Andrew when the devil destroyed their ship and they all drowned. However, their bodies were brought to Andrew and he revived them. The ship is pictured in the background of this image. In the center we see the bodies washing ashore, and in the foreground a man has brought one of them to Andrew, who blesses him.
