Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, bequest of J.W.E. vom Rath
Wearing the vestments of a medieval bishop, this 2nd-century saint holds a heart inscribed yhs, a form of the name of Jesus. The reference is to his declaration under torture: "I have this name written on my heart and therefore cannot stop invoking it."
The date 1486 is inscribed along the base, below the inscription · scs · igniazius · pischapus · et martirus, "St. Ignatius Bishop and Martyr."
