St. Hippolytus

In some versions of St. Hippolytus's legend he was a soldier, so the artist has given him 16th-century armor and a shield emblazoned with a cross. The small horse at his right flank is his attribute, referring to legends that say he died by being dragged or pulled apart by horses.
