The saint wears his signature camel-skin tunic. The scroll in his hand reads Ego vox clamantis in deserto parate viam domini rectas facite semitas eius, "I am a voice crying in the desert, prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths" (Matthew 3:1, Mark 1:3, John 1:23).
