Dionysius the Areopagite Converting the Pagan Philosophers

The title above is from the museum's label, but actually the subject is the moment in legend when the Athenian philosopher Dionysius saw the Good Friday eclipse that attended Jesus' death and opined that either God must be suffering or the world was falling apart. In the painting we see him pointing to the eclipse while his fellow savants try to make sense of the eclipse with their instruments.
