St. Achacius

First half of the 16th century
Oil on wood
Cathedral of St. Stephen, Passau, Germany

This portrait follows St. Acacius's passio in making him a young man of 25, dressed anachronistically as a contemporary dandy. His attribute is the stick with which the imperial officials tried to beat him into making sacrifice to the gods.
