Detail of the Upper Section of the Apse Mosaics in the Euphrasian Basilica: Saints Andrew, James the Greater, and Peter

543-54 A.D. Euphrasian Basilica Poreč, Croatia

These are the fourth, fifth, and sixth figures from the left in the mosaic. The figure on the left is labeled only as Sanctus iacobus, but he can be identified as St. James the Greater because the second figure from the right in the mosaic is labeled Sanctus iaco[bus] alfei, St. James the Less.

St. Andrew is pictured with the wild hair that is traditional in his portraits. Peter has the traditional short, square beard and baldness at the top of his head.
