Master of the Saint George Codex
Manuscript Page with St. George and the Dragon

Circa 1325

In the bottom half we see George's victory over the dragon with most of the details from the story in the Golden Legend: the lake, the red cross, the princess, and the people of Silena at the city walls.

George is also shown with his red-cross shield and banner in the capital D half-way down the text. The figure praying to the saint is most likely Cardinal Jacopo Stefaneschi, who commissioned the book.
