Nosa Señora do Soccoro

Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Many images of the Madonna del Soccorso include the little boy's mother, who got the story started by wishing the devil would take her child. When the devil appeared to fulfil her wish, she prayed to Mary, who drove away the devil with a cudgel or other object. A few other examples are like this one in adding the Christ Child.
