St. Roch

Wood, polychrome
Church of St. John the Baptist, Furelos, Spain

This statue has all the attributes traditionally associated with St. Roch: the pilgrim's hat, staff, and badges; the dog with the bread; the angel with the jar of medicaments; and most importantly the bubo on his left thigh. Cities and individuals suffering from the bubonic plague customarily prayed to St. Roch to intercede for them with God.
