The Apse in St. Paul Outside the Walls: Detail, St. Paul

The inscription to the right is S[AN]C[TU]S PAVLUS, "St. Paul." The inscription on the left says the same in Greek. Paul's scroll reads, IN NOMINE IE[SU] O[M]NE GENV FLECTATUR CAELESTIUM TER[R]ESTRIUM ET INFERNORVM, "At the name of Jesus, every knee should bend, in Heaven, on earth, and in the regions below."
