In the Golden Legend Sebastian tells the prefect Chromatius that he cannot be cured of his painful disease unless his two hundred idols are destroyed. Chromatius gives the go-ahead to Sebastian and the priest Polycarp, they destroy the idols, and the prefect is cured.
