The Sarcophagus of Marcus Claudianus: Detail, the sacrifice of Isaac

The scene is arranged very economically as Abraham, wearing an exomis to facilitate the work of the sacrifice, looks up and away to suggest the moment when God tells him not to sacrifice Isaac. To the left are the ram and the altar with its fire.

View the entire sarcophagus.
