The Sarcophagus of Marcus Claudianus: Detail, the resurrection of Lazarus

Jesus holds a wand that symbolizes his divine authority. The figure kneeling at his feet is Mary, who on seeing Jesus "fell down at his feet and saith to him: Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died" (John 11:32). As usual, Lazarus is shown in his winding cloths at the entrance to a temple-like sepulchre, this time with spiral columns and Corinthian capitals.
