The Passion of St. Vincent of Saragossa and the History of His Relics: Detail, Dacian Orders Vincent and Valerian Arrested

On his throne, Dacian makes the gesture indicating speech and holds a sword symbolizing his authority. His green tunic and red mantle will be repeated in his portraits in the other windows in the sequence. To execute the provost's command, the shorter servant has a cudgel and the taller one a length of chain. The chain appears in the next two scenes in the sequence; the cudgel, only in the final scene.
