In the center is a faithful copy of the image on the tilma in Mexico City, supplemented by narrative insets in the four corners. In the two upper Mary appears to St. Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin. In the lower left she places her image on the inside of the saint's mantle. In the lower right, he opens the cloak to show it to the bishop and a number of roses fall out even though it is winter.
