1715-18
Marble, 14 feet high
Basilica of St. John Lateran, Rome

The pilgrim's staff in St. James's hand is his attribute, referring to the pilgrimages made to his shrine in Campostella, Spain. This is one of twelve monumental statues of the apostles, by various artists, lining the nave of the basilica.
