The Election and Ordination of St. Hermagoras

12th century
Crypt of Aquileia Cathedral, Aquileia, Italy

In the lower panel an Apuleian Christian points to Hermagoras, whom his fellows have chosen to be their bishop. (The name HERMAGORAS can be seen in the dark green patch along the right margin.) In the upper panel St. Peter (wearing white and with his traditional short, square beard) ordains Hermagoras bishop and hands him the crozier symbolizing his office. St. Mark stands on the right.
