The Descent from the Cross

Mary presses her face to her son's while St. Mary Magdalene raises her arms in an attitude more commonly seen in Crucifixion images (example). The kneeling man may be untying Jesus' feet, a not uncommon detail in this period. He and the old man on the ladder are probably Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea, who take Jesus down in John 19:40. The young man on the right is certainly St. John the Evangelist.
