Church of St. Augustine, Gubbio, Italy

This is Augustine's return to Africa after his conversion and the death of his mother. His companions walk behind him with their sacks of meager possessions. The Golden Legend gives their names as Nebrodius and Evodius. All three are pictured in what will become the habit of the Augustinian order. They are named in the Golden Legend (Ryan, II, 121).
