The Martyrdom of Saints Centola and Helena

17th century
Oil on canvas
North exterior wall of the choir of Burgos Cathedral

On the right the executioner has cut off one of St. Centola's breasts, which now lies on the floor. On the left, St. Helena offers encouragement. Soon both will be beheaded.

The turbaned man behind Centola's right hand could be the prefect Eglisius, or perhaps just a member of the pagan crowd.
