Saint Nicholas with the Three Boys in the Pickling Tub

South Netherlandish, circa 1500
Oak
Metropolitan Museum of Art, 16.32.193. Gift of J. Pierpont Morgan.

Unusually, the saint is shown with a mitre on his head. Dressed for the liturgy, he sits in his episcopal chair with crozier in hand and blesses the viewer. The boys and tub are a familiar attribute of this saint.
