Giovanni Battista Tiepolo
The Institution of the Rosary

1737-39
The Gesuati, Venice

In the upper section the Christ Child stands at his mother's knee and hands the rosary to angels, who transfer it in stages to St. Dominic, the saint in the middle of the painting in his black and white habit. (The star above his forehead is one of his attributes.) He in turn passes it to the waiting faithful in the lower third of the painting.
