Carlo Loth
The Martyrdom of St. Eugene

18th century
Oil on canvas
Church of Santa Mario del Giglio, Venice

The figure to the right of the Virgin and Child is St. Anthony of Padua, identified by his brown Franciscan habit, beardless visage, and broad tonsure.

The characters in the upper register, the disposition of the figures, and the color choices mirror those in an earlier painting displayed nearby in the church.
