St. Anthony of Padua

18th century
Wood and paint, 52x21x21 in. (133x53x53 cm.)
Museo d'Arte Sacra, San Leo, Italy
Originally from the Cathedral in San Leo.

As usual, St. Anthony of Padua is represented in his Franciscan habit and holding the Christ Child. His right hand holds what could be a book beneath the fold of cloth on which the boy stands. In other images the child is pictured standing directly on the book, which originally referred to his role as the order's first Lector in Theology.
