Polyptych of the Madonna Enthroned: Detail, St. Francis

St. Francis of Assisi is identified by the red gash in his chest, seen through a tear in his Franciscan habit, and by the red mark on his left foot. These are two of the five "stigmata" marks that he received from Christ.
