St. Blaise

Church of St. Blaise, Dubrovnik

In his left hand Blaise holds a maquette of the city of Dubrovnik, of which he is the patron saint. The little cross visible below his right hand may be a survival of the Orthodox practice of picturing a martyr with a small cross in his or her hand. Otherwise he is presented as bishops usually are: wearing a cope and with a mitre and crozier.
